FAQs
What are motorsport data loggers?+
Motorsport data loggers are specialised devices used in the motorsport industry to record and analyse data from a vehicle. This data can help identify areas of improvement for both the driver and the vehicle, and can include metrics like speed, RPM, lap times, temperatures, Lambda value (air/fuel ratio), and so much more.
Data loggers come as small loggers that can be integrated into existing motorsport setups or as display loggers that have already been integrated into easy-to-read displays.
Why is it important to log ECU data?+
Logging ECU data is essential for diagnosing engine issues, optimising performance tuning, and ensuring reliability by recording real time metrics like air-fuel ratios, boost pressures, and sensor data. It allows for precise adjustments without engine damage, aids in predictive maintenance, and helps analyse vehicle behaviour during racing or everyday driving.
Which products are compatible with the Aim ECULog Data Logger?+
The ECULog Data Logger is designed to work within the Aim ecosystem to enhance performance monitoring. Compatible Aim products include the SmartyCam range, GS-Dash, Data Hubs, ACC3 and various sensors.
How does the Aim ECULog Data Logger work with the SmartyCam 3?+
The ECULog logs all the data, such as RPM and temperature, onto its internal memory. After the SmartyCam is connected via a CAN connection, the ECULog transmits according to the SmartyCam Stream onto the EXP port, and the SmartyCam receives the data in real time.
When you record a session, data is logged, and the SmartyCam overlays this directly onto the video footage. This means that you get lap times, speed and other data as part of your track recordings.
Is the Aim ECULog Racing Data Logger good for karting?+
The ECULog is designed to log data directly from an ECU via CAN, K-Line or RS232, making it an ideal product for vehicles with a compatible electronic control unit. If you are running a custom or higher-end kart with an ECU and want to log all available engine parameters, the ECULog is ideal. If your kart doesn't have a compatible ECU, the MyChron 6 range is the better option as it does not require external power to work and is specifically designed for karting.
